Okay, confession: I’ve been quietly writing a book.
It’s called The Almoster’s Guide to Finishing, and it’s about why smart, capable people — hi, it’s me — let good work sit unfinished forever, and how to stop.
I wasn’t hiding it exactly. I just wasn’t ready to talk about it out loud until it was real enough to show someone.
Today it felt real enough.
I sent the current draft to a small group of people I trust and asked them to tell me where they got pulled in, where their attention drifted, what felt confusing or repetitive, and which lines or stories actually landed.
No need to fix my grammar or be gentle, I told them. Just read as much or as little as you have time for and tell me what you see.
After all of the unfinished projects I have carried around for years, there is something wonderfully ridiculous about writing a book about finishing things.
But it exists. Other people have it now. That feels like a finish line of its own.
