Gladys Oser’s USA Bracelet — A WWII Family Provenance Lead

Recovered Oser family correspondence — February 19, 2024.

While working on the WWII book, I remembered that when we went through Grandma Gladys Oser’s jewelry, Jill may have taken one or more wartime “sweetheart” pieces. I asked whether she still had them so I could photograph them.

Jill replied that the only jewelry she received from Grandma Oser was one bracelet. She had never known it had anything to do with World War II, but said that possibility made sense because it had “USA” on it. She remembered wearing it on the Fourth of July.

At the time of the exchange, Jill thought the bracelet might be at Buck Hill and planned to look for it when she returned to New York.

This is a family-provenance lead only. The surviving correspondence connects the bracelet to Gladys Oser and records the “USA” detail, but it does not independently verify the bracelet’s date, maker, wartime use, or classification as sweetheart jewelry.

About Me

I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week.  Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
