Jill sent a note after receiving the family cookbook I had put together.
She especially loved seeing the recipes alongside family photographs and the original handwriting — Grandpa’s noodles, Aunt Margaret’s sauce, and the other pieces that made the recipes feel like family history instead of just instructions.
She asked the obvious question: how did I find the time?
“Well it took more than a year to complete. And I paid the boys 5 cents an image to scan boxes of stuff for me a few summers ago.”
I also mentioned one more family-history project still waiting its turn: a journal Grandpa Albert had filled out that I needed to do something with “one of these days.”
Apparently preserving family history is a team sport — even if some team members are paid by the scan.
