Sue Hughes shared a family WWII remembrance while I was still working on AraBelle’s story.
She wrote that her hometown was honoring veterans with banners from Memorial Day through November. Her sisters had arranged one for their father, and three of her uncles — Lavern, George and Ray — would also have banners.
Sue wrote:
“I can’t imagine what my Grandma and Grandpa and my Aunts and Uncles went through having 4 children/siblings fighting in WWII.”
The attached banner identifies her father as John J. Blocyzynski, U.S. Army Air Corps, World War II, service 1942–1944. Sue said he served as a navigator and was stationed in England.
This is a recovered family-history source note. The email also preserves the names Lavern, George and Ray as three additional siblings who served during World War II.
