We had two different versions of how Pat and Mike Oser met, so I finally asked Pat to settle the argument.
Pat:
“I was a senior in high school. I worked after school at a restaurant. Mike was a freshman in college and worked as an elevator operator at a Knights of Columbus hall. He would stop at the restaurant I worked at when he got off work and have his dinner. I sometimes waited on him and definitely flirted with him.”
The next day I reported the competing family memories: Tyler was convinced Mike drove her to college; I remembered them meeting before that; Matt remembered East St. Louis, that Mike was older, and was less helpful on the wedding details.
Pat cleared that up too:
“Tyler is correct that Mike did drive me to college but that came the fall after we started dating. And of course Mike is older and we got married on a Friday evening at St. Phillip’s church in East St. Louis with our reception in the church hall.”
