Changing the Rules Midstream

Hello –

As a parent of a junior at St. Charles West High School I am disappointed with the changes to requirements to graduate with honors.

It is a disservice to our students to change the requirements mid-stream and I ask that you consider maintaining the standards that were in place for the current students to ensure the goals that were set by our students as they entered as freshman or at the very least roll back to the previous requirements.

In our case our son has turned his schedule upside down repeatedly in order to make the requirements work (dealing with adding additional AP class requirements after AP Biology was not offered last year). Under the previous requirements he planned to qualify for Magna Cum Laude – which required a 3.8 GPA and 8 semesters of advanced coursework. Under the new system his 3.95 unweighted GPA (3.975 weighted) will qualify him for the lowest level of honors – which is not a true reflection of his efforts.

Please consider the impact upon our student who have made the commitment to attaining top grades and how the St. Charles School District rewards and recognizes that achievement.

If there are further discussions about possible changes to this policy I would like to participate.

Thank you.

About Me

I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week.  Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
