Recovered Oser family genealogy research — March 30 to April 2, 2017. This was an unresolved Ancestry DNA-match lead, not a confirmed relationship.
An Ancestry user named William Lewis contacted Danielle after receiving a DNA match he could not explain. Danielle forwarded the message to Scott Oser to see whether he recognized a likely connection.
Scott’s first thought was that the match might connect through previously unknown relatives of Gladys Oser, noting that the family appeared centered in the St. Louis area. William mentioned a Harry Murphy in his tree, adding another possible lead.
Scott cautioned that they probably could not resolve the relationship until his father’s DNA results came back. His reasoning was simple: if his father matched William even more closely, that would be a strong clue that the connection ran through Gladys’s side of the family.
The first test attempt had failed and was being redone, so the question remained open. Danielle summed up the hope behind the exchange: “Wouldn’t that be an amazing way to solve a mystery?”
May 4 update: Danielle wrote that they had Tyler do an Ancestry DNA test and “we may have a lead on Matt’s grandma that was given up for adoption.” She also noted that her dad’s side of the family tree still needed more work.
July 17 update: After several failed attempts, Michael Oser’s AncestryDNA results finally came in. The family email subject summed it up: “DNA – 4th time’s a charm.” On July 24, Michael invited Danielle to access the results directly so the family could compare the matches against the unresolved adoption/DNA lead.
