Hello –
Question – Tyler really wants to move on to Honors Chemistry with the rest of his class, but the math requirement is holding him back. You’ve seen that he is a good student, willing to participate and put in the time. Is there any way to waive the pre-requisite? He will have additional help at home as his Grandma is an award-winning, retired chemistry teacher. We know it is not your call, but I thought I would start with you.
Thank you so much!

Hi Danielle!
I got recommendations from the counselors based on classes and grades, and I’m meeting with the chemistry teacher tomorrow to go over them all. The math is a recommendation, although kids that aren’t super strong in math do tend to struggle with honors chem. I do know Tyler is awesome, he works hard and is so smart.
I do know the biggest problem will be- if he’s in honors chem next year, then he won’t have the math pre-req for honors physics his junior year. BUT, he can take AP Chem, AP Biology, or Biology 2 (anatomy). That will open up his options for the upper level science class.
I will get back to you after I talk to the chem teacher. Thank you for reaching out to me!

Thank you so much! He’s been working very hard and I hate to see it go to waste.

PS – on the Mitosis Map is he supposed to label all of the cell parts or just the phases – we are reading the instructions differently.
September 27 update: Honors Chemistry was working out just fine. Tyler’s September 26 Unit 2 test came back 45.5/50 — an A, 91%.
