Recovered Beck family image-source batch — May 10, 2012. Barbara Beach was learning to use the public-library scanner and sent several batches of older family photographs to Danielle and Dave Beck.
Barbara wrote: “Hope this works. I’m just learning how to use the scanner at public library. Not sure if it’s better to do jpg or pdf??? Anyway, I’m trying and I’m sure you can crop and ‘enhance’ these.” A later message added: “You’ve probably seen all of these pics, but now they are ‘digitized’ (I hope.)”
Recovered image set
- BookScanStation / image.pdf: two similar color photographs mounted on a dark scrapbook page, showing an older woman seated in a chair with a small child on her lap.
- Pics for BDs / image0000.jpg: two photographs on one scrapbook page. The upper photograph is a multigenerational indoor family group posed near a fireplace; the lower photograph shows two adults with an infant near a Christmas tree. This JPEG was embedded in an older MIME format and had to be recovered from the raw email because the normal attachment reader could not open it.
- More pics for D and D 4 BD week / image.pdf: two color photographs. One is an outdoor group of four adults with an infant near a car and palm trees; the second is the same adult-and-infant Christmas-tree photograph that also appears in the Pics for BDs sheet.
- CAKE / image.pdf: a close-up color photograph of a young child with frosting/cake on the face and hand.
The emails themselves do not identify the people, dates, or exact occasions in these photographs. This source record therefore preserves the images and their original email grouping without assigning identities by appearance.
Status: all four surviving May 2012 source attachments have now been recovered/reviewed. Individual identities remain an image-identification task, not a missing-file task.
