March 18, 2010 Dear Dr. Bishop: Our youngest child, Morgan Oser, is currently a student in Mrs. Richardson's kindergarten class. We have been thoroughly pleased with his first year of schooling at Harris Elementary. He has learned so much and is excelling in his studies. More telling is the fact that Morgan is still genuinely excited about school. He literally runs to the bus stop every morning eager to get to school! While we are looking forward to Morgan's kindergarten graduation, we are a bit concerned about the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. Specifically we are worried Morgan will experience the tribulation that his older brother Tyler experienced in the first grade. Like Morgan, Tyler had an excellent kindergarten year (kudos to Ms. Bell). Unfortunately, first grade was a different story. Tyler never "connected" with his first grade teacher, Mrs. Gibson. Tyler (as well as his brother, Morgan) is a very active boy ... Tyler quickly fell far behind in the classroom and his struggles were not communicated in a timely manner. Most disturbingly, Tyler became discouraged in the classroom and began to dislike school. Fortunately, through a lot of hard work on behalf of the school, our family and Tyler, he has improved his studies and is "catching up" with his peers. Just as importantly, Tyler is beginning to enjoy school again! Though we realize Harris Elementary is not in the habit of granting specific teacher requests, we do hope you can help place Morgan in an appropriate educational environment for his upcoming first grade year. While we are confident Mrs. Gibson is a fine teacher, we don't believe that Morgan's personality would play to her teaching strengths. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Matt & Danielle Oser 636-724-3677 danielleoser@yahoo.com
