Recovered Zeimet family-history correspondence — February 17–20, 2009. This thread began when a Giles descendant contacted Danielle through Ancestry about a disintegrating family album containing Zeimet photographs from the 1930s–1980s. The family recollections below are preserved as source accounts.
Peter Zeimet — Earl and Inice Giles
Inice died of cancer in 1972 or 73. She had been married to him for quite a few years. They did not have any children. I know he had a brother in Cody, Wyoming. He is surely gone, also. They did live for awhile in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Inice had been a hairdresser early in life, but did not work after getting married. She was very thin and had stylish blonde hair for the era.
Earl was county commissioner for Canyon County in Idaho for a number of years in the late 60’s through early 70’s. It is near Boise and I think Nampa was the county seat. Earl made a living building irrigation canals with his caterpillar. When your grandfather Zeimet passed away, Uncle Earl’s Cat. was sitting in Edgemont awaiting a repair. They were going to scrape out the little spring/pond on the Sager Place at the ranch. But, it never did get finished……..or even started.
Earl had dated Leah Zeimet while they were both working at the Igloo military arms disposal complex near Edgemont. He met Inice while visiting the family and dropped Leah. She became “Delta Dawn” and never dated again moviing in with Grace in Pringle and running the general store.
Inice and Earl always drove cadillacs later, but originally drove Pontiacs. They had a pretty nice ranch style home on their property a few miles out of Caldwell. Earl faithfully came back to Pringle every year for memorial day to see Inice’s grave. He was in a nursing home prior to his death, but I am not sure how many years. They had an early 8-wide trailer during the post WWII era as they were traveling the construction circuit for awhile and pulled it behind the car. This was prior to permanent residence in Idaho.
He was a pretty nice guy, but very hard lined with opinions. Perhaps he had a right to be as he made exceptional money being self employed and enjoyed a better than average retirement off his own savings. He had no need to take a back seat to anyone where being successful was concerned. Ince was a bit unstable and always nervous. You could tell it made her freaky when she was around a bunch of kids. When all the neices and nephews were running amuck, she would find a privacy corner somewhere. They were both relatively polite to everyone, though. Some of the “relatives” could be more overbearing. That is all I can think of right this secod. If I remember more, I will let you know. – pz
I remember once when they were driving back to Idaho and a call came in from them in Omaha. They were going to stay over and would not arrive until very late. I believe they were back with his family on that trip. Perhaps it was further east, but I do not think so. Earl was always thin and not a large framed man. He always had on dark dress pants and usually a pressed white shirt while visiting. His complexion was ruddy, but may have been that little disease where the blood vessels leak in the cheeks. He also had dark hair and did not turn grey early. His hair was a brown with a tinge of red in it.
Incice always dressed strange. She wore this bizarre sun dress with palm fronds on it to Grace Zeimet’s funeral and frequently had on pedal pusher pants the rest of the time. I believe they call them capris now. The other relatives were a bit more conservative with the dark dresses and hats/veils at get togethers. Perhaps Inice always wanted to remain the attractive date with no children in the picture. Earl always bought every neice and nephew a six pack or coke for Christmas (the old ones in a bottle) I hope this can help some – pz
I moved there in 1997 until last year. Aunt Sue called me to let me know. I have NO clue what year it was, though. It may have been after your grandmother Ara Belle died, though. So,. it was at least 5 years ago – pz
Jo Zeimet — Family Memories
Uncle Earl lived in Idaho with Aunt Inice, my father’s sister. My mother called him Earl the Pearl, but that’s not for passing on. Earl was a conservative Republican and drank whisky, so you can imagine how my mom liked him. Earl and Inice always came to Pringle at least a couple times a year. They were wildly popular with the younger set because they gave each of us our own 6-pack of pop for Christmas, which was a treasure in those days.
I’ll ask my cousin Eileen if she’d like some pics — I have a whole trunkful of people my dad left me that I can’t identify, from 50 years prior to that and more. But I might know some of the people from the 30’s on…
P.S., regarding Giles — Grandpa Fuller’s side had a Giles Corey running around prominently in the lower family tree. Very English.
The Photographs Find a Home
She does not have a computer and answered by mail. Most of her family all lives around Pringle and they should be there. I would likely distribute them that way. Dan just got her letter. He may have already written you. I got a lovely email from him today. It was very interesting. Thank you for sending it to me – PZ
He had written to Pringle just with the name. It did get delivered and she wrote him back. It just took awhile. When he did not receive an answer, he looked on the internet and found you. He received a letter from Sue with her address. He was very grateful for your assistance. He gradusted from Cody High school in 1963, the same year as your mother. He is now in a wheelchair from an old accident in sports. It meant quite a bit to him locating a proper home for the photos. With your interest in family tree stuff, I am sue you can understand. I am pretty sure most of his family is gone now. I could detect his sadness while writing. So, thank you again for doing a good deed – pz
