Life With Boys

The mis-adventures of two crazy boys and their bleary eyed parents.

Peter Zeimet — On Toys, Technology, and Violence

Recovered family correspondence — October 11, 2007. Original email from Peter Zeimet. Original subject: “Danielle – how narrow of you to only see the photo.” Body preserved verbatim.

With all the shootings and things in school, do your not equate the danger of “toys” and the effect they have on youth today? With computer games like Halo and other massive destruction devices that glamorize the violent sides, how can you not see that the toys are devasting to a child’s mind? It has become a society of putting guns into the hands of a child and making it seem a VIRTUAL REALITY. We may as well send the child down the slide onto a cheese grater. If you think I am twisted, then you may be out of step yourself, too.

Please think about the meaning of a “political statement” like the photo I sent you. I do not promote damaging a child but our toy companies and PARENTS that let millions of children SHOOT the masses and fire missiles in a computer game that is SO REAL it is hard to distinguish from reality. It is not cops and robbers in the back yard that is OBVIOUSLY NOT REALITY and the child knows it. Listen to the news and think about it. Distrubed children can no longer make that decision and access to guns and schools is an increasing problem. It is ironic that Ithis cartoon was doing the internet circle and the day after another school shooting incident has happened………………..and you call me twisted? Wake up, Danielle. Have some coffee and smell the roses. Corporate America will put toys into the hands of millions of children that let the holder MAME AND DESTROY in their minds. Hi technology in the hands of a profit driven C.E.O. have NO boundaries. Parents who will do ANYTHING to keep the child entertained in a house so large that everyone has their private space is not a recipe for good parenting. It is a lazy way out. Everyone is working to make as much money as possible and the child is in their own big room in a bedroom wing far removed from the control of their parents. There is more to think aboutthan LEAD PAINT whore our children are concerned. The school district here DOES allow a teacher to carry a gun into the classroom. I think it is wrong, but I can see their point of view, too. Twisted………I DO NOT THINK SO. Perhaps I just do not have my head in the sand. Sorry to burst your bubble but I am not twisted and even if you personally control the type of toys a child plays with, most parents do not. We may as well send them to a cheese grater. We let them go to school with children who will shoot them. Think about it – Pete Zeimet

About Me

I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week.  Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
