Recovered family correspondence — July 27, 2007. Original email from Peter Zeimet. Original subject: “the little LANI tree is growing.”
One of your dad’s relatives sent a gift card from Home Depot to me after Lani passed away. They said plant a tree for her. Well, I figured that I would be moving and in the desert, a new owner may not water the tree. They do NOT survive here unless they are watered, even if many years old. So, I waited. I put the tree in the day I got the keys. Sadly, somehow it got snapped off……likely by a kid in the neighborhood playing as the house was vacant for a few weeks. It saddened me when I saw it all broken off. I have kept watering it despite its being a stick poking oiut of the ground only a few inches………and there are lovely little green leaves now sprouting out. It is a poplar tree. Just thought I would let you know – pz
