As Reno keeps growing, the pattern here is so much like other cities. The downtowns decay and become an almost abandoned area of empty buildings and homeless vagabonds. They are building a ONE BILLION dollar shopping plaza and that is just the first phase. The funny thing is when the Truckee River flooded so badly a few years back almost destroying the entire Sparks industrial park, the freeway collapsed in the flood and caved into a giant sinkhole during the advance of the river. Within a few days, the sinkhole filled with water (like a thousand feet deep) and required the rerouting of the freeway when it was rebuilt. Now there is this big lake in the middle of Sparks which is Reno's twin city. The city of Reno has been totally unable to stop the advance in decay of its downtown and a huge redevelopment plan has been moved to the new LAKE in Sparks. What is weird, it is refilling itself and they actually have NO idea where the water is coming from, nor where it is draining out of, either. They built a number of luxury homes on its shore a couple years ago and more than half have now fallen into the abiss ............so now they are building a BILLION dollar center on LANDFILL that is sinking faster than they can dump dirt in it. You can see where the center of the cleared land is lower in elevation. They have big trucks just dumping and dumping 24/7. My how city planning is strange. - pz
