I did one a few years ago to locate an old friend from Alaska that had moved to Palm Springs. Well, they gave me a phone number in Cathedral City that had been his sister’s. It was no longer working, but when I got there, that phone number was in the current phone book. She must have just moved as it HAD been a viable contact number. I never did find my friend, but I did not try too hard. I did find one in New Jersey though through the same company. The data they gave me was not correct, but I tried the same city and got a current number. If you have a SSC and a military number, you would have more than I did. At an older age, it is not too likely someone would remarry so hopefully the wife would still live in the same general region. I do remember your mother saying that it was not a very happy conversation.
I think your mom and grandmother ascertained that maybe the new wife was fearful of a claim on his estate and sort of cut off the communication line. I know that was not your mother’s intentions but it certainly could have been prominent in his family’s eyes – pete zeimet
