Life With Boys

The mis-adventures of two crazy boys and their bleary eyed parents.

AraBelle Zeimet Memories from Sue Hughes

Recovered family correspondence — December 30, 2006.

Thank you so much! Ara Belle was one of a kind, and I’m so glad that you are doing all this work to get her story told.

She was a real trooper when I announced that I was having a baby, at age 42, without a husband. She sent us boxes of baby stuff, much of which we used to keep from buying new. Then, when Anna was older, she sent her fabulous dolls.

I have several pictures of you and your sister, and ABZ and your Aunt Jo singing and playing instruments in the kitchen. Do you have them?

Take care,
Sue Hughes

Related recovery lead from the same email thread: Sue also wrote that she had many letters Peter Zeimet sent while Jo was living with her. She described them as news of Edgemont and his time as mayor, adding that Peter “always had an interesting take on even the most mundane things.” Those letters remain a family-history recovery lead.

November 21, 2010 — photo recovery follow-up

When Danielle asked whether Sue had any later-life photographs of AraBelle, Sue replied that the only ones she had were “those of ABZ with you and your sister, and Jo playing bagpipes in the kitchen,” probably from the early 1980s. Danielle replied, “If you could that would be fantastic. I don’t have even one with Grandma.” Sue said she would look through her photo boxes for them.

Earlier that same day — Sue’s original request

Sue had first written asking, “Do you have any more letters from ABZ?” after Jo sent her the Pearl Harbor blog material. She wanted to know what AraBelle did during the rest of the war. Sue also said she had many letters Peter Zeimet wrote while Jo was living with her — mostly Edgemont news and his time as mayor — and remembered that he “always had an interesting take on even the most mundane things.”

About Me

I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week.  Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
