Life with boys … private edition … sometimes you just have to laugh … a few months ago my car was hit in a parking lot but could not get in for repairs until this week so I’ve been cruising around in my rental which we were planning to drive up to Iowa this weekend to grab some of the boy’s stuff and say hello … all was well and good until my car was finished early and I needed to get the rental returned, we were set to get out the door in less than an hour … to the shop we go … I jump out so Matt could get the rental return process started … and then I realized I still had the keys to the rental in my purse (yes, in the Jeep compass you can drive off without the fob in the car) … over to the rental place I head where I then remembered I didn’t even put gas in (per my rental agreement) … crap … get that figured out … turn the wrong way and have to flip around … we are now late to pick up the boy’s friend who is tagging along for the ride to Iowa … and we realize my car that has been in the shop is also almost out of gas … turn around again … while we are getting gas we get a call … I left my credit card at the body shop … Turn around yet again … now we are really late … why does it matter? Because we have an appointment to tour apartments in Columbia at 2:30 … yes, Columbia …
This week the boy has decided to make the change to transfer from Iowa State to Mizzou … it’s been a long week of patience, trying phone calls, and heart-wrenching middle-of-the-night discussions about options and consequences and next steps … we are all exhausted …
It’s so weird, this position, to feel like somehow we should have provided different guidance to help our kiddo find their place … but it’s not like he followed the advice we offered … we can’t make him do the things that may help … we can only continue to hope he will find his way … that a reset will do the trick … and in the meantime, we scramble to reestablish everything …
