So, I know what to do in my classroom if there is a shooter on campus. I know what do with cases of academic integrity. Alas, I’ve not been trained when a student raises her hand then passes out, and after coming to throws up. It’s not like there is a nurses office. (She is pregnant, she told me at the beginning of semester)
The answer is: call public safety and dismiss the class. (Luckily for me there was a public safety officer in the building and I managed to catch him. He was very sweet and even took out the nasty garbage bag.) Another student – a Mom – came to her aid right away.
I’ve taken dozens of first aid classes, I can deal with blood. But I totally blanked out on the student is cold and clammy – and it really seems like there is nothing you can really DO.
She had a friend come and pick her up and still looked pretty gross. I’ll check on her tomorrow.
So what employee training are you missing?
