Life With Boys

The mis-adventures of two crazy boys and their bleary eyed parents.

Burlap …

For Christmas I bought a bunch of burlap bags to wrap gifts (because wrapping paper just does not ship well).

The bunches I bought came in smelling STINKY! (Which I guess is always the case based on my Google searches.) I tried hanging them outside for about a week to air them out – yeah nothing, still stinky. So then I tried sealing them up in a box with a bunch of baking soda – still stinky – and now full of baking soda dust.

So then I turned to the dryer – if I put them in there with a bunch of dryer sheets and changed them out every hour or so, and it helped – until …

Until the lint stopped getting stuck in the lint trap (about 50 of 100 bags in) so, first we tried cleaning out the lint trap, which helped a little.  Next step, the vacuum, then the shop-vac, still no heat. Head to Home Depot to look for some kind of brush thing to clean out the lint. Icky brush comes out, but still no luck!
Must need more power … leaf blower … I shove the blower part in the lint trap, turn it on and WHOOSH – burlap lint projectile vomits all of the laundry room.  And did I mention how much burlap lint itches?
We’re about an hour in at this point. Yeah, still nothing. Head outside and use the leaf blower in the vent deal. Nada. OK – pull out the dryer, remove the hose thing, shove in the leaf blower – out spews legos, sucker sticks, icky dusty stuff, toothpicks, pencil stubs … Still nothing. Back to the leaf blower, stick it up in the back of the dryer … more lint … this time in the dryer itself. Now we head to youtube to learn how to take the damn thing apart. Remove the back panel and TADA! A solid mass of lint – about the size of dodgeball … alas, we we’ve found the issue.  And it is pakced in there TIGHT.
Reassemble the dryer … spend 2 more hours cleaning up the laundry room that is entirely covered with lint … and I still have 50 dusty bags to go … (Matt says NO MORE BURLAP in the dryer)

About Me

I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week.  Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
