Since my computer seems stuck in some kind of infinite loop I guess I’ll take a minute to say hello.
Hello.
Anyway. Here it is the middle of January and I am reminded just how much I hate to be cold. And it’s the kind of cold that doesn’t go away. I would almost rather deal with Utah snow, almost. We did have our first official snow day this week (you see we often have snowless snow days – I don’t understand it AT ALL). The boys were told that if they wear their pj’s wrong side out, put a piece of fruit in the freezer, an ice cube in the toilet and a spoon under your pillow you can make it snow, and they did it, and it did. Rotten luck.
I spent the snow day cleaning out Morgan’s room. I get this thing into me in January that says it’s time to merge and purge. And I always make a horrendous mess in the process of cleaning that make Matt absolutely insane. Oh, but the Morgan’s room, the kitchen cabinets and the computer drawers all make so much more sense now. And I will spend the next three months telling people again where things are now, despite my fondness for labels. (Best Valentine’s present EVER!) I’m also impressed with Matt’s insight for my Christmas “experimental” gift — moisture wicking (aka. hot flash) pj’s. It’s awesome not having to get up and change clothes in the middle of the night because I’m soaked and freezing. And yes, I know it’s way to early for night sweats, but my body has never seemed to know what is appropriate when.
Anyway — the boys are too busy if you ask me. They both have Cub Scouts (which Matt is praying that I will take over soon) and until this week (when Tyler gave up) they had wrestling twice a week for 1.5 hours. Morgan is a little terror and does not even think twice about taking down whoever is in front of him. He’s one determined little guy. Matt’s thinking about letting him enter a rookie tournament later this month. Win or lose it would be good for him I think (especially if he does not win — is that awful of me to say?). Anyway, Tyler and wrestling are not a good match – not sure what the good match will be yet, but we’ll just keep trying. Report cards came out and they both did well. Tyler’s handwriting grade reflects his horrid penmanship and Morgan’s still getting working on sitting still and not talking. (Not sure that is ever going to happen.)
And what am I doing now that I don’t have homework and when I’m not dismantling the house? Well let’s see. I’ve set up multiple backup drives on our computer and I’m still struggling to recapture what was lost when my external hard drive bit the dust. The hardest thing is all of my Grandma book research that I’m having to recompile. It’s a major pain in the butt. Now that I have my degree what’s next? Not sure. I think what I’d really love is to hide myself away for a few weeks and do nothing but write and get this book done. (Or at least done enough to show someone.) Then I’ll be able to change gears and get more involved in the social media and blogging communities in St. Louis and perhaps find a teaching position that allows me to use my degree (which I know Matt is itching for me to do.) But for now I’m well paid, have a flexible schedule and a project to finish and there is no time like the present. It’s one of those so close but yet so far. But, I am making daily backups this time! And I did get an awesome note from a teacher who found my site and is using it for her students. (And I’m a bit embarrassed about that, it’s nowhere close – but it was still encouraging.
Anyway the computer is now telling me – repeatedly – it needs to restart. So off I go.
Oh, and one more thing, I’m headed to Jackson, Mississippi for the Sweet Potato Queen gathering with Mindy in March and of course you’re invited.
Maybe
