In the past week I’ve had several people make inquiries about archiving movies (VHS, 8mm, 16 mm) and photos (negs and slides). Here are the services I’ve had very good luck with, at affordable prices.
Movies: Home Movie Depot http://www.homemoviedepot.com/ And right now they are running a 15% off deal. (I tried Walgreen’s and was VERY UNHAPPY with their service)
Slides & Negs: http://www.scancafe.com/ What I liked best about this was they will let you delete up to 50% of the images and not make you pay for the scan — a bonus when you don’t have the time to sort through the negs. I think they did about 30,000 images total. (When Mom died I took every negative and slide I could find in the house and had them digitized.)
Photo Books: http://www.mypublisher.com/ Software is easy to use. Prices are affordable and they run several promotions for buy-one-get-one, free shipping — you name it.
Online Photo Scrapbooks: http://www.smilebox.com/ So easy and fast to create custom slide shows, movies, scrapbooks.
Digital image management: http://www.picasa.com/ I still swear by Picasa. It’s easy, free and I find myself using it all the time. They’ve added several tools to help make your images easier to find with tags and face recognition.
Duplicate File Finder: Once I had all of the images I found there were lots of duplicates when I got everything in one place. This program will analyze what you have and let you delete the duplicates http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/duplicate-file-finder
Happy organizing!
