Life With Boys

The mis-adventures of two crazy boys and their bleary eyed parents.

I know it’s all relative but …

Tyler has taken to trying to get away with things and then tell white lies about it. This morning I had had it. Here’s the situation …

Tyler heads into Laundry room to get his shoes — takes a while, but he’s usually running on his own time anyway. When he gets back into the kitchen he’s futzing with his shoes, I ask what’s wrong with his shoes “Nothing”

“Is there something on your shoe?”

“No, well maybe there is some sticky on there”

“Well get it off and let’s go.”

Then he tries slinking over to the garbage can, and I know he’s to something (I’ve known all along) “Tyler, what is in your hand?”

“Nothing”

“Show me.” He produces a bunch of felt feet (you know the kind you stick on the bottom of stuff so they don’t scratch your shelves). “What are were you trying to do with the feet?” “Make myself taller” he says.

Now I feel rotten but must stick to my path of trying to teach him not to lie. He’s been sentenced to a night cleaning his room. (Although I’ll be you Dad let’s him out on “good behavior”) Matt thinks I may have over-reacted a little. How would I know? If you have some great parenting advice about this one I’ll take it.

  1. How about “catch him doing something right” theory? He did finally tell the truth, and maybe recognizing and rewarding that?

It's tough to be short. 🙂

  2. On second thought, maybe I wouldn't be asking a/my 19 year old, “where have you been all night?” if I had banished him/her to his/her room when he/she was younger.

(I am trying not to let on which one of my kids is involved here.) How am I doing?

About Me

I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week.  Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
