We’ve just started the third week of school and I’m already totally frustrated and overwhelmed. It’s not so much the daily homework as it is the daily homework battles. We save homework until after dinner so he’s had a chance to play, he’s fed and there are few excuses (aside that we’re both exhausted.) It’s not only that he does not want to do the work, it’s that we’re not ready to do the work. Here’s tonight’s assignment:
Have your child read the ABC chant five times.
A, B, C, D, E, Chant
A, B, C, D, E
I can’t find Clifford, where can he be?
F, G, H, I, J
Maybe the dog catcher took him away!
K, L, M, N, O
I wonder where Clifford could go?
P, Q, R, S, T
Isn’t there anyone who’ll help me?
U, V, W, X, Y
I think I’ll sit down here and cry!
Z, Z, Z, Z, Z!
Look, he’s sleeping under the tree!
Seems like a bit much too me. Are we that behind in reading already? Do we need a tutor? And with each recitation Tyler gets more and more frustrated and angry, which of course does wonders for me.
Help.
