Life With Boys

The mis-adventures of two crazy boys and their bleary eyed parents.

Waiting for Matt’s return …

For the first time in 11 years Matt had to travel for work.

It’s been a really long week.

I’m not cut out to be a single Mom.

Yesterday was a “Mom” day. Normally on Mom days we get up, eventually hit the gym (that is if we don’t have an appointment, a fever, or whatever else keeps us from not going to the gym), run errands, eat lunch, take a break, get up, make dinner, Matt gets home.

So yesterday started at 5:45 with a request to watch “Rugrats in Paris” followed by let’s wash our rock collections in the bathtub which completely soaked our first set of clothes. Get dressed again. Go to gym. Get 20 feet from gym when Morgan leaps/falls into a puddle and gets covered in black gritty slime and covers Tyler at the same time. Back to car. Strip off clothes in parking lot. Back to house. Start laundry. Put Morgan in kitchen sink because bathtub is full of rocks. Decide to skip the gym and go for second part of plan, go to science center. Decide that since they’ve been horrible about taking naps we’ll just skip that part too. Do science center which is over-run with field trips. Decide to do lunch after the Monster’s exhibit. Finish Monster’s exhibit, lunch place is closed. 2:45 finish science center, both boys fall asleep in parking lot. Still no lunch. Get home. Transfer boys to couch. Both boys wake up and want lunch — it’s 3:30. Fix noodles. Lay down on couch, let boys watch The Land Before Time. Wake up to water sounds. Realize boys are washing matchbox cars in the living room, and spilling water everywhere. Yell. Get kids dried up and change clothes again. Go to gym. Put boys in tot drop so I don’t kill them. Get boys back from tot drop, they’re hungry again. Take path of least resistance, go through drive through. Feed kids. Find out that what they had me order and what they wanted don’t match. Think about drinking several margaritas. Tyler gives Morgan his ice cream and pacifies situation for a little while. Give boys bath. Get soaked. Change. Get pjs on kids. Read story. Kiss good night. Close doors. Morgan reappears needs radio turned on. Tyler appears can’t find pokemon stuffed critter. Put boys in bed again. Say good night. Morgan has to pee. Say good night again. Pass out on couch. Hope that Matt comes home soon, very, very soon.

  1. Oh, I know those kinds of days. It’s funny (or not) – I never really realize how much Scott does for me until he’s gone for a week. Just the act of coming HOME each day is a big help. Another adult to talk to! I get a chance to take a breath! Maybe a few minutes to myself! Matt’s back soon, I hope?

About Me

I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week.  Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
