I’ve been working on a book for nearly 5 years now. It’s a compilation of my Grandma’s WW2 journal, scrapbooks, letters and plethora of other items. It’s taking forever (yes, I know I have two small children and a house and a job and a husband and a life — but it’s still taking forever.)
What I want to create is more of a coffee table style book that tells the history by putting you into the history — be giving the reader access to the one-of-a-kind pieces of ephemera that don’t document battles, but instead rally everyone on the home front to pull together — plus there is the added bonus of the fact that my Grandma was AT Pearl Harbor during the attack and her journals capture those first few moments of war in a perspective like none I’ve come across so far.
I’ve had a great deal of help from my Mother-In-Law who helped to transcribe many of the letters and journal entries into a format we can actually read (Grandma had weird handwriting). Now there are a sill a dozen or so letters to go and 100s of photos still to be scanned.
I’ll get there eventually. I’m just impatient today.
My Book …
About Me
I started this site so my mom could get news about her grandkids without me having to walk her through the process of trying to open and email attachment several times a week. Since then she has passed away and I’ve fallen off the blog wagon, but I’m inspired to pick it up again now.
