I’ve been AWOL for sometime now — so I’m taking a quick break from my excel planning worksheets to create a brief post.
California was wonderful!
The weather: a tad warm, but nothing like St. Louis.
700 sorority women in one place: Overwhelming in a good way.
The Entertainment: Went to see Kenny Loggins at the Hollywood Bowl on July 4 (and I was one who knew most of the words, surprised me too). Saw the new Superman at Grauman’s Chinese Theater (good enough — can’t remember enough of the first ones to make sense of everything), ate most of our meals (Wolfgang Puck catered) in the ballroom where the Governor’s ball is held after the academy awards and strolled the walk of fame with two of my favorite California people Tracy and Diana (family excluded of course 🙂
The Shopping: Took two tours — one to Olvera Street and the Farmers Market and found an amazing mix of cultures and enough sights and smells to put anyone on sensory overload. Wish I had more time. Go hungry! The ice cream is wonderful! The other tour was to the LA Fashion District, specifically Santee Alley — where I discovered that the street vendors sell not only hot dogs, fruit, less than original DVDs and most amazing, pets. A guy walks around with a luggage cart contraption stacked with cages. You name it, rabbits, birds, lizards, snakes — and turtles. Can you guess what I the sucker for all things cute brought home?
It turns out you can take small turtles in a see through carrier on the plane and they traveled very well. The boys are delighted and they are starting to grow on Matt. Who since we walked into the door from the airport has set to make himself an expert about all things turtle. (But I have to clean it, feed it and explain what happens if they die. I’d much rather do that than trying to explain “private parts” to Tyler — but that’s a story for another day.) In case you are wondering they are Red Eared Sliders.
