Of course when I was coming home from California, my suitcase was too heavy (there was a great sale at Pottery Barn.)

The Skycap told me that there would be a $25 fee for the overweight bag — which I paid begrudgingly. He was a cordial, funny guy — teasing me that I could have bought another suitcase for what I was paying in overage.

On my way in toward security, another Sky Cap asked me if I got a receipt for the overage — which I hadn’t — he told me to go ask for a receipt.

Turns out there as no indication that I’d paid anything at all — I’d been ripped off.

So then it was back out on the sidewalk trying to ID the thief. Which of course I couldn’t do, but eventually he was tracked down and fired on the spot.

So, the big lesson here — if your bag is too heavy, don’t pay the Sky Cap.
