I wish I had good news to report this morning.
The cultures have revealed that she has a Staph aureus infection that has spread to all five lobes of her lungs.
A normal x-ray will show black with your rib bones. An infected x-ray will look cloudy. Mom’s x-ray has clouds on both sides.
One doc said that the x-ray is not always the best gauge — that the vital signs are more important. That she needs to keep her heart rate low, her oxygen levels above 92, her blood pressure normal and her breaths per minute in the mid 20s.
They are helping her control this by manipulating the ventilator, forcing her lungs to stay inflated a little bit longer so more oxygen can exchange into the blood stream. This is unnatural and uncomfortable. They have increased the sedation in order to prevent her from fighting the machine.
And she is still fighting. And will be really pissed when she comes out of this.
Mindy and her family are coming is this afternoon and my Uncle Peter Paul will also fly in this evening.
We won’t know specifically what the bacteria will respond to for at least another 24 hours.
I’ll post again later. For now just keep sending your thoughts and prayers.
Love Always — Danielle
